The Flower Pot

This scene is a demonstration of the soft shadowing capabilities of Tong. If you look closely at the shadow of the flower’s strands, you can see that the shadows accurately represent the actual object. The light source iteself is a square area light source approximately 50cm in each direction, hovering about 3 metres above the white floor. The room itself is merely a white cube, which was intended to be used with photon mapping. As the shadow was the focus of this image, I decided that photon mapping this scene was of little benefit as it would not only increase the render time but it would also wash out the shadow.

Update:
The image on the right was path traced using 200 rays per pixel and an IBL light source. The noise is not, in fact, due to the path tracing, but due to the horrible texture on the flower pot. Sigh.
